Debunking Rumors

The aftermath of a major disaster is a breeding ground for rumors, bad information and-unfortunately-scams. The City will debunk rumors and scams as they appear and post the information below.

  1. Base Flood Elevation (BFE) Maps

    Rumor: Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) has changed the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) maps and new BFEs are now being enforced.

  2. Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Registration

    Rumor: The deadline for Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) registration for the October flood is January 19, 2016.

  3. Flood Prone Properties

    Rumor: The City is currently buying out flood prone properties and residents may be forced to sell their homes.

  4. Flood Damage Assessment of Homes

    Rumor: the City of San Marcos is doing flood damage assessment of homes in order to force residents to raise their homes or to "land grab."

  5. San Marcos Activity Center

    Rumor: San Marcos Activity Center is flooded.

  6. San Marcos High School

    Rumor: San Marcos High School has had tornado damage.
