As San Marcos grows larger every day, we are doing what we can to provide new programs for our community, and that means a larger need for volunteers.
Party In Your Park
Party in Your Park is a series of events held four times a year. This series is designed to highlight the many city parks that are located in our San Marcos neighborhoods! Volunteers will help set up for the event, manage and monitor the games, and keep the kids engaged. We will also need assistance with serving snacks and refreshments to our guests.
Spring Carnival Prep Week
There's a lot of work that goes into the Spring Carnival on April 10-12, 2017 and we could always use some extra hands! We need assistance with sorting decorations, creating signage, and organizing games.
Farmer Fred's Garden Spring Carnival
This annual family favorite is back again on April 13, 2017, complete with 30 plus games, free candy and prizes, bunny pictures, and an egg hunt, just to name a few. There are several opportunities to help out with at this event, including setup/take down, running game booths, prize patrol, bag hand out, bunny pictures, etc.
Dances for Adults with Disabilities
Adults ages 18 and older gather at the San Marcos Activity Center every other month for a night of friends, music, and dancing. Welcoming participants, selling concessions, mingling with participants, and clean-up will be the duties involved.
SMASH Social Dinner & Entertainment
The SMASH Social Dinner and Entertainment on May 5, 2017 is a San Marcos Active Senior Hotspot event targeting the 50 and older crowd. We need help welcoming participants, serving dinner, mingling with participants, and clean up.
Miss Beautiful Pageant & Rehearsal
The Miss Beautiful Pageant is for female adults with disabilities. We need volunteers to assist with the full dress rehearsal on June 8 and with the pageant on June 9th. We need volunteers to help with lining participants up, ushering them to and from the dressing room, greeting the public, and with set up/clean up.
Daddy Daughter Dance
This event takes place on June 16, 2017. Young ladies age 1 year and older, along with their father figures, are invited for an evening of music, dancing, treats, tiaras and keepsakes. This heart-warming event draws over 300 attendees and just keeps growing! We need volunteers to help greet our special guests, serve refreshments, run our photo booth and facilitate our arts and crafts area.
SummerFest is the City of San Marcos' annual 4th of July celebration which consists of live music, vendors, and fireworks! Volunteers are need to help set up, assist with the costume contest and parade, assist with eco stations, assist with parking lot duty, and with clean up.
Homeschool Enrichment & Physical Education Instructors
We are searching for Texas State students that would be interested in gaining first-hand experience teaching elementary, middle school and high school age kids once or twice a month. We are able to send a subject for you to create a lesson plan, or you could teach what you are passionate about. We have space available to teach a core subject or enrichment activity on Wednesdays and physical activity on Fridays. If you are interested, please contact Catherine Marler.
50+ Program Volunteers
Recreation Program Specialist, Nick Riali, is looking for a dedicated individual or organization to assist with weekly senior programs. Programs include Game Day, Pickleball, Luncheons, and the SMASH Social Club. This commitment would include 5-10 hours per week of volunteer work. This is a great opportunity to gain work experience and learn more about creating, marketing and running programs. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Nick Riali.
Hot Spot Clean Ups
Keep San Marcos Beautiful and the Habitat Conservation Plan partner the first Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. to clean up areas that affect the San Marcos River. Locations will be determined on the litter pick up need. If you would like to be notified of the Hot Spot Clean Up, please contact Amy Kirwin.
