Responsibilities/Services

The City Clerk and staff are committed to providing quality public service and connecting the public with the legislative process.

Mission Statement

The City Clerk's Office is primarily responsible for giving notice and recording City Council meetings, is designated responsible for certain official records and documents of the City, including minutes of the City Council, ordinances and resolutions, deeds and easements, contracts, birth and death records, the computerized indexing of Council actions and board appointments, computerized code, keeps abreast of legislative changes in elections, administers all City elections, and the City's Records Management program, provides support services to the City Council, and responds to request made by the City Manager affecting the daily business operation of the City.

We strive to ensure that the City's legislative processes are open and public by providing a link between citizens and government with processes aimed toward transparency. Through efficient use of City resources we are able to ensure the preservation of San Marcos' legislative history. We are a technology driven department believing that technology provides much faster and more easily accessible information.

Our team is here to assist with City Council support, City Council meeting-citizen sign up, public records requests, passport acceptance, processing board and commission applications for appointment, elections administration, updating and maintaining city ordinances and codes; provide access to legislative meeting information, vital statistics. records management, election and financial disclosure related filings.
