As part of the review of the Public Draft for downtown design standards and guidelines, city staff and project consultants, Winter and Company, hosted a Joint Focus Group Meeting with the following organizations/boards to discuss proposed recommended changes to the design standards and guidelines:
- Historic Preservation Commission - Heritage Association Officers - Main Street Advisory Board - Downtown Association Board
The Virtual Meeting was held on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
As part of the update to the downtown design guidelines and standards, the city and consultants, Winter and Company, hosted three focus group meetings to discuss the vision for future design in the downtown area. For the safety of all residents amidst COVID-19, these meetings were hosted as an online interactive virtual meetings with the following groups:

Big Ideas / Key Take-Aways
After a short presentation of the project background and objectives, each group discussed a series of questions regarding strengths of and issues raised by recent development, the downtown design contexts, and the existing standards and guidelines documents. Historic preservation questions and questions regarding the public realm were addressed by the appropriate groups. All questions focused on downtown San Marcos, defined by the design contexts map stretching from I-35 to the University.
