Fieldwork & Internships

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for fieldwork and internship positions will have the ability to work closely with staff and participants, the ability to organize resources and people, possess creative skills, be able to meet established goals, be punctual, and have computer desktop publishing skills. A major in Recreation Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field is suggested.

All positions provide experience working with various populations. All positions work around your schedule but may require work after hours, weekends, and holidays. Some positions are paid 10-15 hours per week. Some positions can be tailored to meet the needs of marketing, mass communication, art, photography and majors/interests other than recreation administration.

Fieldwork

Gain hands-on experience:

  • Creating a new program or revamp of existing
  • Learning Elements of a program
  • Assisting with marketing and social media
  • Assisting with existing programs and events
  • Shadowing other employees in the department

Internship

Gain hands-on experience:

  • Planning and leading programs/events
  • Assisting with marketing and social media
  • Working with boards and committees
  • Volunteer recruitment and management
  • Learning about contract programs
  • Learning policies and procedures of municipal government
