Station 6 Grand Opening
The San Marcos Fire Department celebrated a major milestone this past Friday, June 30th with the Grand Opening of our newest station, Fire Station #6! This station is located by the TRACE neighborhood at 5716 S. Old Bastrop Hwy and will serve the ever-growing Southeast corner of the city for many years to come!
On hand to commemorate this momentous occasion were the residents of the TRACE neighborhood, members of the City Council, City Manager's Office and also a good handful of SMFD's retirees! Attendees were invited to listen to a few words from our guest speakers, assist with an engine "wetting" ceremony and finally lend a hand with the "push-in" ceremony where Engine 6 was rolled into it's bay! Attendees were then able to explore the station, ask questions, partake in a luncheon provided by ServPro and enjoy ice cold snow cones from Kona Ice that were graciously sponsored by the TRACE neighborhood.
Sunshine Kids and SMFD!
The Sunshine Kids Foundation was founded by Ms. Rhoda Tomasco in 1982 and helps to provide exciting, positive, group activities and opportunities for children with cancer so they may once again do what kids are meant to do... have fun and celebrate life. Funded by personal contributions, corporations, and foundations. Sunshine Kids provides all of the activities completely free of charge to the children and their families.
During the week of June 3rd, Sunshine Kids made their way to San Marcos for the Texas Hill Country Adventure! The week was filled with local activities including horseback riding, trips to Schlitterbahn and Sea World, tubing the San Marcos river, a motorcycle ride through the Hill Country with a stop at San Marcos BBQ for lunch, a Cruise to the Capitol, dinner at Texas Roadhouse and even a dance!
A great big Thank You goes out to SMFD's Captain Aaron Stewart for helping coordinate volunteers from the department to assist with the Sunshine Kids Foundation during their visit!
