Third Party Plans Review

Effective September 19, 2018, the San Marcos Fire Prevention Division (Fire Marshal's office) will be utilizing third party plan review services to supplement our plan review process. View a comprehensive list of approved third party firms (PDF)

Currently, the following plans require plan review by a third party prior to permit issuance:

  • Fire Sprinkler (less than 20 heads do not require third party review)
  • Fire Alarm (adding horn/strobe or expanded notification and like-for-like swaps do not require third party review)
  • Fire Sprinkler Monitoring Systems
  • Special Hazard
  • Operational permits for Aerosol products, high rack/piled storage, and hazardous materials
  • Emergency Responder Radio Coverage Systems (ERRCS)

Work not requiring third party plan review will be submitted by a scope of work letter in My Permit Now and obtain a permit. Contractors shall install a white service tag with an accurate description of the work performed and will be verified by an inspection from our office.
