The fire station group tour program is an educational activity intended to allow small school groups (10 individuals or less), service clubs, youth organizations, church groups and other civic-minded organizations to schedule and participate in a tour of a working fire station. A tour of the fire station can help younger minds understand that our firefighters work a 24 hour shift and live at the fire house every third day!
To request our firefighters make a personal appearance to your school, daycare, or special event, fill out the form by clicking on the link above. Please note, SMFD does not visit birthday parties. All community events must be submitted 2-weeks in advance. Visits are limited to 2-hours.
To schedule a firetruck to join in your parade, fill out the form by clicking on the link above. Please note, the fire truck must be at the very end of the parade line-up to allow for a quick exit in case of emergency.
For each of the above requests, the fire stations and firetrucks remain "in-service" during tours and visits. Fire companies may need to respond to emergencies at any time. Should an emergency arise, it will be necessary for the tour to end and your group to exit the station. Please keep this in mind when visiting.
Walk-ins will enjoy a one-on-one discussion with a firefighter as they are shown around the station and vehicles.
Group tours are customized to the ages and interests of the visitors. Both young and old enjoy getting an up-close look at the fire apparatus, equipment and gear. Firefighters will also combine fire safety education with each tour.
Dates and times depend on the availability of the fire department. Please know we will try to accommodate your request to the best of our ability but other dates/times may be offered. Tours are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis and are subject to Operations approval.
