Resident Assistant Training - Texas State University San Marcos

The San Marcos Fire Department has formed a partnership with Texas State University to promote fire safety training for staff and Resident Assistants (RAs) of dormitories at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters with the primary focus of providing instruction about emergency evacuation, emergency response and fire fighting procedures.

Our Firefighters teach fire extinguisher training, smoke evacuation exercises, bunker gear familiarization and the "Consequences of Fire."  One mistake, such as forgetting to blow out a candle, can have tragic repercussions in a dormitory setting.  We want the RA's to remind students to unplug electric appliances and to never smoke inside.  To be aware of fire exits and if the fire alarm sounds, evacuate - don't assume it's a mistake.
