Library News

Growing Up Wild

August 15, 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Come out to this nature experience! We’ll read books on different nature topics each month followed by a fun craft or outdoor activity. Preschool-aged children are welcome to attend our 10 a.m. session, while school-aged children should attend our after-school session at 3 p.m.

 

Storytime

August 16, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Children are invited to the library for great stories, songs, and fun.

 

Baby Storytime

August 16, 12:00 p.m.

An early literacy playgroup for pre-walkers. Join other babies for songs, stories, stretches and playtime!

 

Shut Up and Write!

August 18, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

With a "just do it" attitude, Shut Up and Write! is for anyone trying to finish a writing project. No critiques or group share allowed. The first 30 minutes are for introductions and to discuss writing challenges followed by one hour dedicated to work in silence. Guided Piano Meditation

August 18, 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Create vibration with your voice as you make sounds that connect to your heart chakra with piano music in the background. Presented by Brett Somers.

 

Befriending Yourself: A Practical Self-Compassion Workshop

August 19, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Adults will combat their inner critic in this fun, interactive workshop. Gain tools and techniques to exercise self-love and self-care. Feel free to bring your children – supervised mindfulness activities for children of all ages will also be provided. Presented by staff of the Hays-Caldwell Women's Center.

Cuéntame Bilingual Stories

August 20, 12 p.m.

For ages 3 to 6. Stories, songs, and learning in English and Spanish. Para niños de 3 a 6 años. Historias, canciones y aprendizaje en inglés y español.

 

Hobbits, Elves, Orcs, and Dragons! Exploring Tolkien's Fantasy World

August 20, 6 p.m.

J. R. R. Tolkien is best known for his epic adventure novels, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and part of what has made these stories so compelling for readers around the globe is the striking detail of the world in which they take place. In this talk, Dr. Robert T. Tally Jr. will discuss the making of Middle-earth by examining Tolkien’s creative process in establishing the history, geography, and cultures of this fantastic “otherworld,” and he will argue that Tolkien’s fantasy is also useful for shaping the sense of our own world today.

 

Computer Class

August 21, 10 a.m.

Free introductory computer classes in email, Internet searching, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel for adults. Learn how to get started with your iPad or tablet.
