[ARCHIVED] Public Invited to Participate in San Marcos Transit Plan

City Seal

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the City of San Marcos, in collaboration with Texas State University, is hosting three community meetings to gain initial public input for the San Marcos Transit Plan, a five-year transit plan for the San Marcos community.

Pop-up information meetings will occur on the Texas State University Quad from 8 to 11 a.m. and at the San Marcos Station, 338 S Guadalupe St., from 1 to 4 p.m. A formal planning meeting will be hosted from 6 to 8 p.m. at the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St.

These meetings are the early stages of input for a Five-Year Strategic Plan for transit service within San Marcos and will detail the actions required to coordinate the City’s transit service and the Texas State University Bobcat Shuttle into one transit system to better serve the needs of the community.

Earlier this year, the Federal Transit Agency (FTA) designated the City as the “Direct Recipient” of federal transit funds which has been one of the City Council’s Strategic Initiatives in 2018 & 2019.

The Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) will continue to provide public transit services to the City for the coming year, and the Texas State University Bobcat Shuttle will continue with its current operation.

For more information about the public meetings and the transit project, contact Transit Manager Pete Binion at pbinion@sanmarcostx.gov.
