The second annual Monarch Fest and Native Plant Sale will take place Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
The purpose of the Monarch Fest is to celebrate and spread awareness of the importance of the monarch butterfly. City of San Marcos staff and representatives from 11 other local organizations will host exhibits designed to educate the public on how they can protect the disappearing habitats and migration paths of monarchs and other pollinators.
Thank you to Monarch Fest sponsors Keller Williams Realty Walker Texas Team, Grande Communications and Carson Properties.
While at the Discovery Center, attendees to Monarch Fest are invited to shop the Native Plant Sale. Native plants provide nectar for pollinators, use minimal water and can handle hot Texas summers better than non-native species. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Discovery Center’s Native Plant Program.
