Early Explorers

February 27, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Come join us for a world of exploration! We’ll read books on a different country each month, followed by a fun craft or activity that will bring the country and its culture to life. Ages 3-5. This month’s country is the Netherlands.


Passport to Reading Challenge & Chat

February 27, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

February’s Passport to Reading challenge is to read a book about relationships. Each participant is invited to briefly present a book, fiction or nonfiction, they read on this topic.


Elementary Explorers

Master Gardeners: For the Love of Roses

February 27, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

For the Love of Roses covers basic rose care and rooting. It will also cover how to take and grow cuttings, plant selection for alkaline soil, dealing with heat and drought, and most importantly, fertilizer. These tips are tailored to cover any herbaceous plants that can be acclimated to this area, as well as native ones, but the primary focus is on roses. Presented by Linda Keese.

Storytime

Children are invited to the library for great stories, songs, and fun.


Baby Storytime

February 28, 12:00 p.m.

An early literacy playgroup for pre-walkers. Join other babies for songs, stories, stretches and playtime!


AARP Tax Aid

February 29, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Trained volunteers from AARP prepare individual tax returns for free at the library. Appointments available and walk-ins welcome. Bring all tax-related documents, including last year’s tax return, social security cards for all dependents, and a photo ID. Make appointment at aarp.org/taxaide.


Herbalism Club: Growing & Storing Herbs

March 1, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Let’s talk about herbs! This month Marian Stasney will present on what is an herb and basic tips for growing and storing herbs. Feel free to bring favorite books, recipes, seeds or cuttings to swap, or just come ready to learn.


Collage Making

March 1, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Join Cathy Sparks and other adults in collage making. Collage is the art of creating an image by assembling varied materials on a two-dimensional surface. Supplies are provided, but you are welcome to bring special materials you might want to incorporate into your collage.

High School Equivalency Registration

March 3, 9:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Adults wanting to prepare for the High School Equivalency exam come register for our free classes. Classes meet Monday through Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m.


Storytime

March 3, 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Children are invited to the library for great stories, songs, and fun.


Cuéntame Bilingual Stories

March 3, 12:00 p.m.

For ages 3 to 6. Stories, songs, and fun in English and Spanish. Para niños de 3 a 6 años. Cuentos, canciones, y diversión en inglés y español.


Teen Advisory Board

March 3, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Teen Advisory Board is a group of teens interested in making a difference at the library. TAB members play a critical role in developing the library’s young adult collection, young adult outreach, event planning, and making the library a friendlier place for young adults. Teens can earn volunteer hours for attending. For 6th-12th graders.


Workforce Wednesday

March 4, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Your résumé, cover letters, and job searches take time. In response, the library is offering extended hours with professional, personalized assistance, every Wednesday through the spring.


Computer Class

March 4, 10:00 a.m.

Free introductory computer classes in email, Internet searching, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel for adults. Learn how to get started with your iPad or tablet.


1st Wednesday Book Club

March 4, 1:00 p.m.

Adults discuss The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwambe.


Philosophy Dialogues

March 4, 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Adults participate in a round table discussion with students and faculty of the Texas State University Philosophy Department. Topic: Sages through the Ages: Older, Wiser, and Passionate presented by Christopher Johnson.


English Language Learners Registration

March 4, 6:30 p.m.

English classes for adults. Clases de inglés para adultos. Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 PM. Las clases son los lunes y miércoles de 6:30-8:30 PM. All interested adults must attend an orientation before class begins. Todos los adultos interesados deben asistir a una orientación antes de comenzar la clase.


The Art of Zentangle

March 4, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Learn the art of Zentangle with Lana Daniel. The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. We call these patterns, tangles. You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S-curves and orbs. All materials provided.
