[ARCHIVED] Hays County Opens Online Portal for COVID-19 Vaccines

Hays County Opens Online Portal for COVID-19 Vaccines

On Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, the Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) received a shipment of 1,950 Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. It also launched an online portal where individuals eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations can sign up for appointments: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c4da5a72da6fbcf8-sanmarcos.

A phone registration system is available, but the County strongly encourages use of the online system. Anyone without internet access may call 512.938.1650.

HCLHD will begin administering vaccines to individuals with appointments on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, and expects the process to be completed on Tuesday.

“We will only accept appointments and are asking the public to not show up at a location without one,” Hays County Emergency Operations Director Mike Jones said. “We have a tight window of opportunity to distribute the vaccine once a vial is opened and we’re asking for the public’s help in ensuring we strictly follow the protocols in place.”

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra warns that the initial rollout is constrained due to limited quantity of vaccine and high demand.

“Our goal is that as more shipments of vaccine doses arrive, we can rollout a more robust implementation plan,” Becerra said. “For now, we are ready to get the first round of people vaccinated.”

Only individuals in Phase 1A and 1B of the Texas Department of State Health Services’ (DSHS) vaccine rollout plan are eligible to receive a vaccine at this time. That includes individuals 65 years of age and older, or individuals 16 years of age or older with at least one qualifying chronic medical condition.

City of San Marcos residents who need help signing up for a COVID-19 vaccine may call the San Marcos Public Library at 512.393.8200. Assistance is available in both English and Spanish between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. This assistance will be available for this sign-up and for future sign-ups as more vaccine becomes available in Hays County.
