[ARCHIVED] City Cemetery Official Location for Wreaths Across America Day 2022

Wreaths Across America 2022

The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department will once again join the mission to remember, honor, and teach, during the 2022 Wreaths Across America Event. For the fourth year, the San Marcos City Cemetery has been named an official location that’s participating in the national program on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022.

Wreaths Across America started as a simple gesture of thanks that has grown into a national movement of dedicated volunteers and communities coming together to not only remember the nation’s fallen and honor their service, but to teach the next generation about the sacrifices made for us to live freely. This year, there will be more than 3,100 participating locations with more than two million volunteers coming together to place veterans’ headstones.

“San Marcos businesses and residents have graciously supported this event in the past and we need their help again this year to reach of our goal of 750 wreaths,” said Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Programs Manager and WAA Location Coordinator, Lisa Morris. “Honoring our Veterans with a remembrance wreath and saying their names aloud is one of the ways that we can show our gratitude for the sacrifices they made for our freedom.”

Volunteers are needed to assist with placing remembrance wreaths in the San Marcos City Cemetery on Wreaths Across America Day. Community members are also invited to support the imitative by sponsoring wreaths.

“The City Cemetery is the final resting place for many of our veterans and serves as a place for families and community members to remember them and reflect on their lives of service,” said Hays County Veteran Service Officer and San Marcos City Council Member Jude Prather, who also served in Operation Iraq Freedom. “Wreaths Across America is great way to honor their legacy.”

Sponsorships start at $15. For more information, visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/tx0916 or contact lmorris@sanmarcostx.gov. For media inquiries, contact communicationsinfo@sanmarcostx.gov
