Tyler Hjorth has been named Assistant Director of Public Services, heading the City’s electric utility operations. He joined the City on March 12, 2018.
“Tyler is an excellent addition to the City team,” said City Manager Bert Lumbreras. “He has a wealth of experience and has demonstrated great leadership in the Texas power industry.”
Hjorth has worked in electrical power generation and distribution industries for over 25 years, serving in both technical and managerial roles. He has successfully designed, maintained, and operated various types of complex power systems, including those at Eastman Chemical in Longview, South Texas Project Nuclear in Bay City, and Texas A&M University in College Station.
As Manager of Electrical Services at Texas A&M University, Hjorth oversaw the nearly 50 percent increase in campus electrical consumption in just over five years and managed a system equivalent to the San Marcos Electric Utility in electrical usage, personnel, and budget.
Under his leadership, the teams Hjorth has directed have markedly improved their customer service, safety, and reliability performance indicators.
A 1991 graduate from Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Tyler is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers since 1990, and a member of American Public Power Association.
Tyler and his wife, Mary, have four grown children and are expecting the arrival of their third grandchild in April.
