At an administrative hearing on Thursday, Nov. 8, Hays County Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Scott J. Cary signed an Agreed Judgment ordering custody of 175 animals seized last week in an animal rescue case in Buda to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.
The process for placing the animals is currently underway, beginning with outreach to potential owners or the originating organization found to be linked to the microchips found in approximately a quarter of the rescued animals. Redemption of these animals will be conducted by appointment to facilitate proper process.
The remaining unchipped animals will be re-evaluated and made available for adoption or placed with a transfer partner organization. A significant number of the animals suffer from a variety of health issues and are being evaluated and treated by a veterinarian.
Anyone suspecting their missing animals may be among the animals seized in this case are strongly encouraged to email an attached photo and details to animalservicesinfo@sanmarcostx.gov . Staff will work to address each inquiry.
Interested parties wanting to volunteer should contact AIR, Animal Investigation and Response, at http://www.animalinvestigationandresponse.org/volunteer/. People interested in fostering animals should contact Paws at info@pawsshelter.org.
Rescue Groups interested in assisting with placement of animals may email animalrescue@sanmarcostx.gov.
Photos of animals are not being released at this time, and no further information regarding the investigation is available.
