[ARCHIVED] SMPD Arrests Shooter and Serial Rock Thrower

New Year’s Day Shooting Injures Three, SMPD Makes Arrest

On Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, San Marcos Police arrested Korey Ryan Aleman (6.14.95) of New Braunfels, TX, for a shooting that occurred on San Antonio St. on Jan.1.  Aleman has been charged with five counts of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon for the incident.

At approximately 1:10 a.m. on Jan. 5, one of the two downtown officers on foot patrol near the front door of a bar in the 100 block of E San Antonino St. observed a male, later identified as Korey Ryan Aleman, entering the bar.

The officer recognized Aleman as possibly matching the description of a male involved in a shooting which occurred a few blocks away on San Antonio St. early on New Year’s Day.  During the incident, a male subject discharged a firearm into a crowd of people following a disturbance which resulted in two people being shot in the leg and a third person being grazed by a bullet.

The officer told Aleman to exit the bar and he complied. Aleman provided a Texas identification card for another person and identified himself by that name.  The second officer assigned to downtown arrived a few minutes later to assist the first officer.

Since the original offense was for an aggravated assault/shooting involving a handgun, it was decided that officers would detain Aleman.  The second officer began handcuffing Aleman when he pulled away and began to resist attempts at being handcuffed.  He was taken to the ground and continued to fight and resist.

Upon his arms being immobilized, a third officer removed a Ruger semi-automatic handgun from a holster in the front center of his waistband.  Aleman was then handcuffed.

It was determined that Aleman has multiple felony convictions, is currently on parole, and has active warrants for parole violations in Travis County.  A search after his arrest found Aleman to be in possession of two marijuana cigarettes and a glass methamphetamine pipe containing methamphetamine crystals.

In addition to the Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon charges from the New Year’s Day shooting incident, Aleman has been charged with Resisting Arrest/Search, Unlawful Carrying of Weapon on Alcohol Premises, Failure to ID Fugitive, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

Aleman has been detained in the Hays County Jail since early Saturday morning.
