[ARCHIVED] Traffic Control Box Art Installed; Designs by Local Artists

The City of San Marcos has installed three new pieces of public art on traffic control boxes at busy intersections in the community.

The Traffic Control Box Art program aims to enhance the city by adding works of art to the streetscape on surfaces that are often targeted by vandals.

The City sent out a call to artists in 2018 to participate in the program. Winning designs were digitized and printed on vinyl wraps that were installed on the traffic control boxes.

“These pieces, by talented local artists, beautify our community and add color to the San Marcos streetscape,” said Ruben Becerra, Chair of the San Marcos Arts Commission.

“As the River Prays,” by Wimberley artist Mary Barton, is located on Centerpoint Road next to the Tanger Outlet entrance.

“Monarch Migration,” by former San Marcos artist Bejat McCracken, was installed at the intersection of McCarty Lane and Leah Drive.

San Marcos artist Dayann Pazmino’s “Besos Del Sol” was installed on Peques Street near the Texas State University commuter parking lot.
