[ARCHIVED] San Marcos Police Investigating Murder-Suicide

San Marcos Police

On Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019 at approximately 11:23 a.m., the San Marcos Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Hilltop Dr for a report of shots fired with one person shot in the head.

Witnesses advised that the victim, Brihana Landrum (05/17/1994), had been shot in the head by her ex-boyfriend Adrian Diaz (03/08/1990).  Landrum and Diaz had been involved in an on-again, off-again relationship for several years.

Diaz fled the scene in his vehicle and Landrum’s family members loaded her into a vehicle and attempted to take her to the hospital.  Landrum’s wounds were fatal and she died before making it to the hospital.

A short time later, San Marcos Police Communications received a request for EMS to respond to a location in Guadalupe County for a male subject with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  The description of the vehicle matched that of the vehicle in which Diaz was seen leaving the crime scene.  Responding units were able to confirm that Diaz was the deceased subject.

Detectives from the San Marcos Police Department and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department are conducting a joint investigation into these incidents.  The San Marcos Police Department is conducting the investigation into the homicide, while the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department is conducting the investigation into the suicide.

This is the second homicide in San Marcos for 2019.
