Starting Friday, the Posey Road Bridge will be closed to traffic as construction crews work to reconstruct and reconfigure the I-35 at Posey Road interchange for safety and mobility.
Construction is expected to cost $31.8 million. Project development was funded by Hays County and construction of the project is funded by TxDOT.
Once complete, I-35 main lanes will go over Posey Road. TxDOT says the project will also increase connectivity across I-35 by providing additional travel lanes through the frontage road intersections, adding U-turn lanes in each direction, reconfiguring ramps and converting frontage roads to one-way. Motorists will need to use Centerpoint Road or York Creek Road to access their destinations during construction.
SMTX The Bus has created a long-term detour for Bus Route 5 and the Interurban Coach Route 1510 that often uses the Posey Road bridge. Due to the detour and not being able to change the route schedule times, buses may lay over before or at the bus stop on Center Point when able. Route information will be posted at each stop and online at www.RideCARTS.com and www.SMTXTHEBUS.com.
Work on the I-35 at Posey Road project is expected to be complete by early 2021, weather permitting. For more information about this project, please visit www.My35Construction.org.
