[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Assailant Still at Large in Three Rape Cases

A sketch of the assailant that sexually assaulted three women in San Marcos

5:45 p.m. New Information

The investigation has determined that while Louis is connected to the sexual assault at The Edge apartments that occurred Monday and was reported yesterday, he is NOT connected to the additional three incidents occurring at the Cottages and the Retreat within the last two weeks.

We strongly urge all residents to stay cautious, lock your doors and windows, and report any suspicious behavior.

Our investigative team has just released a sketch of the assailant tied to the three sexual assaults. One of the victims saw his face and was able to give a description. He is described as a black male, approximately 6’2” to 6’3” tall, last seen wearing a long sleeve black shirt, black pants, black gloves, and black mask covering his face/hair.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Detective Campbell at 512-753-2312 or dcampbell@sanmarcostx.gov.

Keith Louis III Arrested by US Marshals & FBI in Austin

2 p.m. Original Release

Following a press conference held by the San Marcos Police Department this morning, Keith Vallen Louis III (6/18/91) was arrested in Austin, TX by U.S. Marshals and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Just before noon, members of the investigative team received information about Louis’ whereabouts and shortly thereafter, members of the United States Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the FBI Central Texas Violent Crimes Task Force located and arrested him.  Louis will be transported from Austin to the Hays County Jail later today.

An arrest warrant had been issued for Keith Louis III in relation to the rape of his roommate that occurred on Monday, April 29 and was reported on Thursday, May 2.  SMPD responded to the Edge Apartments, 1740 Ranch Rd 12, the afternoon of Thursday, May 2 in response to the report from the victim’s roommate, but Louis evaded arrest.

At this time, it is still unclear whether Louis is responsible for all of the reported armed intruder or sexual assault cases that have occurred over the last two weeks.

These cases include:

Wednesday, April 24:  SMPD responded to the Cottages of San Marcos, 1415 Craddock Avenue, for a reported aggravated sexual assault.

Tuesday, April 30:  SMPD responded to the Cottages of San Marcos, 1415 Craddock Avenue, on a report of a man who entered an occupied apartment and threatened the residents with a handgun. The residents ran from the apartment physically unharmed.

Thursday, May 2:  SMPD responded to the Retreat, 512 Craddock Avenue, for a reported aggravated sexual assault. Two victims at the apartment told police they were sexually assaulted.

The investigation regarding these cases continues and residents are reminded to remain vigilant about their personal safety and security, to lock doors and windows, and to report any suspicious activity to the police.

SMPD is also asking for anyone with privately owned surveillance to retain and check their recordings for relevant footage. Anyone with information about these cases should call Detective Dave Campbell 512-753-2312.
