Downtown Design: Virtual Community Workshop Recap

As part of the update to the downtown design standards and guidelines, the city hosted the first ever Virtual Community Workshop to seek input on the future look and feel of downtown! The event took place on Thursday, July 23, 2020 online via ZOOM.

During the interactive Workshop, participants learned about architectural styles and provided input on the vision for different areas of downtown using polling, Q&A features, and a post-meeting survey.

If you missed the event, you can view the workshop presentation and watch the workshop video on the project webpage. Additional information, including a summary of community ideas, polling, and survey data from the workshop will be posted in August.

Project next steps include:

  • August: Outline for change to the design standards and guidelines
  • Fall 2020: Draft #1 of changes to the design standards and guidelines
Thank you to those who have participated in the downtown design update process during the past few months! Community input will guide the look and feel of the future of downtown San Marcos. Stay tuned for more ways to get involved!

COVID-19 Update

On behalf of the entire Planning and Development Services Department, we hope everyone is remaining safe amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we can flatten the curve. At this time, all Planning and Zoning Commission meetings are being conducted online. Inspections

Our inspectors are continuing to keep our single family and commercial construction projects moving while also maintaining their safety by wearing face protection, social distancing, hand washing, and offering video inspections to homeowners. Our department is offering video call inspection services, through Skype, for all occupied home inspections to help ensure the safety of our citizens and our staff. Please contact Michael Gleason at mgleason2@sanmarcostx.gov for more information.
