The City of San Marcos is in the process of updating its Short Term Rental Ordinance. Public sessions have been scheduled to review the recommended changes and provide input.

Where: Veterans Park- 320 Mariposa, San Marcos, TX

Time: 9am-11am

Activity: picking up litter along Willow Creek

Special Instructions: wear close toed shoes, pants and long sleeve shirt

Resource Recovery Wins STAR Award

The City’s Resource Recovery division won Outstanding Public Outreach Program at the annual State of Texas Alliance for Recycling (STAR) Summit held Oct 6, 2021.

Highlights from our 2020 work:

Multifamily Recycling study with The Recycling Partnership
- New educational outreach to all multifamily units
- Some complexes received bins for their residents
- Some complexes received bins and valet service for their residents
- Outcome: 60% increase in valet service with lower contamination
Residential curbside auditing of recycle and green waste carts throughout the whole city.
- Individual Oops tags for contaminated carts
- Tailored social media posts about common contaminates with helpful hints
- Outcome: 70% participation in recycle with average 5.3% contamination; 25% participation in compost with average 7.8% contamination

City Code Compliance and Resource Recovery staff have been helping a resident, who is also a Veteran, with code issues at his property. The resident has graciously allowed both depts. to remove nine truckloads of trash from the property with much more to be done and completed. The Veteran was also given contact information for Jude Prather who is the Hays County VA and also the newly appointed Councilmember. Jude will be assisting this resident in finding additional services. A meeting to discuss the possibilities of building a carport and making some much needed repairs to the residents home is already scheduled. Bravo COSM Team!
