2. General Information

   Organizations may submit a calendar item online through our online calendar submission form. The more information provided by the submitting organization, the easier it is for the city to determine whether to post an event. 

   Please Note: Anonymous and incomplete submissions will not be posted. The City of San Marcos’ Veterans Events Calendar is a text-only listing. Fliers, brochures, and other documents will not be posted.

4. Qualifying Events

   A qualifying event is a carefully planned, legal gathering that is open to the public and/or targeted specifically to Veterans and/or their families and surviving spouses; includes support groups, educational meetings, entertainment, and/or activities; and may involve a targeted theme or cause. Events may have an associated entrance or participation fee, but they cannot be for-profit. The event must be located in San Marcos and surrounding incorporated areas as determined by city staff. Additionally, events must meet one or more of the following criteria to be eligible for posting to a community calendar: City event or activity; City sponsored or funded; Not-for-profit community events open to the public and not exclusionary in nature, that meet the definition of a qualifying event.

6. Items Not Permitted on the Veterans Event Calendar

   The following are not permitted on the Veterans Event Calendar: commercial, private, political or religious advertising; private, commercial or for-profit events; partisan political events; cause or opinion-based activities which are deemed inappropriate for city support; discriminate, hostile, or extremist activities; fundraisers that do not directly support Veteran specific causes.

8. Request Deadlines

   Veterans Event Calendar requests should be submitted online no later than the 15th of the month prior to the event. For example, a request to advertise an event taking place in December should be submitted by November 15. Events submitted after that date may or may not be posted.

10. Permits

    Submitting an event for the Veterans Event Calendar does not mean that other necessary city resources (such as permits, police, and road closures) are being handled. Organizers should contact the appropriate city departments for more information.

12. Removal of an Item

    Events submitted to the calendar known to contain any form of the following shall not be posted or shall be removed:  

    • Profane language or content
    • Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation
    • Sexual content or links to sexual content
    • Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity
    • Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems
    • Content that violates a legal interest of any other party 
    • The city reserves the right to reject or to post, review and edit, prior to inclusion on the Veterans Event Calendar, all electronic mail and event announcement forms received.
    • The city reserves the right to restrict or remove any content or event that is deemed in violation of this policy or any applicable law.
14. Oversight

    The city manager's office is responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy. Any inquiries about this document should be addressed with the Communications Division.

16. Veterans Event Calendar Terms of Use

    The San Marcos Veterans Event Calendar is the property of the City of San Marcos, and as such, the City reserves the right to reject or to post, review and edit, prior to inclusion on the Veterans Event Calendar, all electronic mail and event announcement forms received. 

    Electronic mail and event announcement forms received via the Internet become the property of the City of San Marcos. These communications are not private and are subject to public disclosure. The Internet access server, associated security, communications, networking, and systems and components used to access the Internet and/or Online Services, including the Veterans Event Calendar, are owned or operated by the City of San Marcos and the contents of all communications using these may be reviewed in the course of business without the advanced notice or consent of the sender or recipient. The City is legally authorized, and hereby reserves the right, to review system use and file content without the advanced notice or consent of the sender or recipient. 

    The City of San Marcos and its information suppliers 

    • make no representations or warranties of any kind with respect to services, information or data made available by the Veterans Event Calendar, including, but not limited to, the warranties of fitness for a particular purpose or merchantability or non-infringement; 
    • make no representations or warranties of any kind with respect to the truth, accuracy or completeness of any statements, information, materials, services or data made available on the Veterans Event Calendar; and 
    • assume no responsibility in connection with any use of the Veterans Event Calendar. 

    In no event shall the City of San Marcos or its information suppliers be liable for any delays or failures in performance or for any interruption of this Internet site; or be liable for any special, incidental, indirect, punitive, or consequential damages or for the loss of profit, revenue, or data however they may arise, even if the user or viewer of this Internet site has been advised of the possibility of potential loss or damage. 

    The City of San Marcos does not warrant or make any representations or endorsements as to the quality, content, accuracy, or completeness of the information, text, graphics and other items contained on any web links within the Veterans Event Calendar. Such materials have been compiled from a variety of sources, and are subject to change without notice from the City of San Marcos as a result of updates and corrections. All trademarks mentioned in the Veterans Event Calendar are the property of their respective owners. Some of the links on the Veterans Event Calendar may lead to resources outside the City of San Marcos Internet site. The user of these resources or links should not construe the presence of these links as an endorsement. The City of San Marcos is not responsible for the content of any such external link.
