Preserve & Beautify
This program strives to raise public awareness, educate citizens about the source of debris, and generate community involvement. Organizations and volunteers are vital in preserving the beauty of San Marcos and we are actively searching for groups. Your organization can assist by adopting a spot, park, section of river, or section of a street to clean and beautify at least 6 times a year.
KSMB has the resources to assist groups and individuals with planning and supplying, in order to undertake specific area cleanups. Please email your request to the Coordinator at least 2 week before your cleanup event. For ongoing cleanups, please view our Adopt-a-Spot program.
Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off is the single largest one-day cleanup for the state of Texas. This event serves as Texas’ signature event for the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup.
Challenge SMTX is a city-wide anti-litter campaign challenging residents to pick up one piece of litter a day and putting it in the either a recycling or trash container. Take a picture or video while in action and post to social media with Number challengeSMTX.
These cleanups allow opportunities for residence to dispose of bulky trash, metal and tires, and household hazardous waste on the 2nd Saturdays of certain months, 4 times throughout the year.
2020 Dates: Spring Dates to be determined; September 12, and October 10
Located at 750 River Road behind the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter, the event is open 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
KSMB is proud to be able to partner with outstanding volunteers that support in preserving the San Marcos River. The Great Texas River Cleanup is held the first Saturday of March every year - next event March 7, 2020. We will be looking for volunteers after the first of the year to aid in river clean up.
There is a fall river clean the first Saturday of October every year- next event October 3, 2020. Sign up will be in early September.
Our Community Enhancement Techs work hard to remove all graffiti on public property using specialized environmentally safe sprays and color-matched paints. Graffiti is removed off road signs and public spaces in order to achieve a cleaner and safer San Marcos. Non-permitted flyer and sticker removal is also a task of our Community Enhancement Techs.
With the direction from council, Arts Commission and KSMB have partnered in order to create the Mural Arts Program to prevent graffiti and beautify the city. More information on this program can be found under the "Educate and Prevent" section of programs.
