New Citizen Comment Sign Up Process

To improve efficiency and service to the public, the San Marcos City Clerk’s Office is making changes to the process residents follow to sign up for citizen comment at City Council meetings. Effective July 26, 2023, residents interested in speaking during the citizen comment portion of City Council meetings will be asked to sign up using the registration form on the website instead of sending an email to staff. The online form will be available through a kiosk at the City Clerk’s Office for anyone interested in signing up in person.

“One of our main goals is to connect our community with the legislative process and encourage engagement by facilitating participation in our public meetings,” said San Marcos City Clerk Elizabeth Trevino. “The online form will allow us to streamline the process and increase efficiency, which will make it easier for our community to get involved.”

The new sign-up process will apply to public comment portions of City Council work sessions, regular meetings, public hearings, and workshops. After signing up to speak, members of the public will be granted three minutes to present their position on issues. All participants are asked to be respectful and refrain from use of insulting, profane, threatening, or abusive language.
