Utility Assistance Available to Hays County Residents

In collaboration with Community Action of Central Texas, financial help is available to qualifying families in Hays, Caldwell, and Blanco County for electric, water, and various gas bills through the Utility Assistance Program. Additional funding of $350,000 recently became available from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for this program.

To apply, all household members above 18 years or older must provide the completed application with required documents including social security cards, proof of income for the past 30 days, photo ID, and current or past due bills for electric or water/wastewater. Applications are available in English and Spanish online and at the Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas office, 215 South Reimer Ave. Completed applications can be delivered in-person at the Community Action office or through mail, email, or fax.

After submitting the application and required documents, processing can take anywhere from four to eight weeks. The submission of the application does not guarantee eligibility of utility assistance. While the application is being processed, homeowners are responsible for paying any upcoming or past due bills. Residents may reapply after 90 days has elapsed since a previous payment.
