Life Safety Inspections

Annual life safety inspections are done on existing schools, daycare centers, medical facilities, foster homes, apartment complexes, and hotels/motels. The Fire Marshal's Office inspects the building's construction and fire protection systems and its operational features that provide safety from smoke and fire during emergencies. Any violations against the Fire Code will be discussed with the responsible managing employee or owner.

Inspections on existing occupancies that require a permit from the City of San Marcos Permit Center are typically licensed facilities such as daycare centers, medical facilities and foster homes. For information on fees, view the City of San Marcos Permit Fee Schedule (PDF)

For businesses that require an annual life safety inspection, please fill out the annual life safety permit application and email it to the Fire Marshal's Office. We will contact you with the next steps.
