March 13-15, 2024 Lithium-Ion Response Awareness Course

Those in fire protection are well aware of the potential risks of lithium-ion batteries. There have been several headlines and much discussion surrounding these batteries and the fire risk they pose, but the simple fact remains: lithium-ion batteries are here to stay. San Marcos Fire Department and Kyle Fire Department present a free lithium-ion training course that will help firefighters understand the hazards of lithium-ion batteries. This class will introduce responders to the hazards presented by lithium-Ion batteries. We will present a short history of the problem, why these fires are so difficult to put out, and provide tools on how to effectively and safely respond to emergencies involving lithium-ion batteries.

Topics Covered:

  • Battery types and light chemistry discussion
  • Battery platforms and uses
  • Fire Code limitations
  • Response options and tools
  • Disposal considerations
  • Fire Investigation considerations
