Chief of Police
Chief Stapp is a San Marcos native with 25 years of Law Enforcement experience and was appointed as Chief of Police in August of 2014. Chief Stapp began his career with the Hays County Sheriff's Office in 1989 and served as an Emergency Communications Operator and Corrections Officer. He began employment with the San Marcos Police Department in January of 1992 as a patrol officer.
Since that time, Stapp has served the department as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Narcotics Detective, Narcotics Sergeant, Patrol Division Commander, Criminal Investigations Division Commander, and Operations Division Assistant Chief before being appointed as Chief. Chief Stapp is a graduate of the San Marcos High School and also graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree. Chief Stapp is also a graduate of the International Association of Police Chief's Leadership in Police Organizations course.
Education & Community Involvement
Chief Stapp holds a Master Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and is also a licensed instructor. In addition to his work at the Police Department, Chief Stapp also serves the community by serving on the TCOLE training advisory board for the Texas School Safety Center and on the board of directors for his church.
Chief Stapp believes strong in values based leadership and strives to hold all members of the department to high standards of behavior and performance based on the department's core values.
