The City of San Marcos and Hays County are rolling out changes during the upcoming election cycle, including a new voting system and Countywide Polling. These changes will be in place for early voting, which starts Oct. 21, and will continue through Election Day on Nov. 5.
New Voting System
Hays County recently purchased new voting equipment that will be utilized in this election for those voting by personal appearance. This voting system is the newest hybrid voting solution that merges the ease of touchscreen voting with the assurance of paper vote records. The public is invited to visit and test demo equipment weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Hays County Government Center, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail. For more information about this equipment, call the Hays County Elections Office at: 512.393.7310.
Cast Your Vote at Any Polling Place
Hays County and the City of San Marcos will be utilizing Countywide Polling, also known as Vote Centers, during the upcoming election. When a county participates in the Countywide Polling program, voters are allowed to cast their ballots at any polling place in the County on Election Day. This means that there will no longer be voting by Precinct. The goal is to provide easier access to the polls on Election Day for all voters, regardless of where they live, where they work, or where they go to school in Hays County. Early Voting Vote Center Locations and Election Day Vote Center Locations are posted online.
No Election Day Polling in Schools
In an effort to support school safety, local schools will not be used as polling locations. Registered voters may vote at any of the approved polling locations in Hays County.
