12 p.m. – THE BIRTH OF BIG AIR: An ESPN special by Oscar-nominated director Spike Jonze and Johnny Knoxville, chronicling BMX icon Mat
Hoffman’s achievements. Mat Hoffman will be present to read excerpts from his memoir, The Ride of My Life.
2 p.m. – OUR FRIEND JON: This documentary chronicles the making of an independent horror movie to honor the memory of the film maker’s dead friend.
3:45 p.m. – DEAR AUTISM: A PARENTS’ PERSPECTIVE + WHEN ALL THAT’S LEFT IS LOVE: The first film explores the stories of heartbreak and hope of three families with autistic boys. The latter documentary portrays a wife’s resolve to care for her Alzheimer’s-stricken husband in their home.
Managing Stress and Change

Certified Life Coach and Career Consultant Deirdre Taylor discusses the personal and professional impacts of change and stress, and how to effectively manage those changes. Participants will learn strategies for applying insights gained from transition to future professional interactions.
Shut Up and Write!

Claiming Sunday: The Story of a Texas Slave Community
October 22, 6:30 p.m.
On this 400th anniversary of the beginning of slavery, the library will host Dr. Elvin Holt to moderate a panel discussion with Jo Snider on her book Claiming Sunday: The Story of a Texas Slave Community, a historical book illustrating the details of slave life in an East Texas community from 1830 to 1865. Dr. Holt will also interview local artist Robert (Bob) Jones on his collaboration with Snider and the creation of artistic depictions of the people who were enslaved in this account.

Understanding Elder Memory Care

From Monet to Van Gogh: A History of Impressionism
