Let’s Move!

October 17, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Get your body moving with stretches, music, and cooperative play! This program promotes physical literacy in a high-energy, non-competitive way. Ages 5-10.


Puppet Show! Miggs’ & Jiggs’ Halloween Treat 

October 18, 10 and 11 a.m.

The library puppeteers perform a puppet show for all ages.


Baby Storytime

October 18, 12 p.m.

An early literacy playgroup for pre-walkers. Join other babies for songs, stories, stretches and playtime!


Friends of the Library Used Book Sale 

October 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; October 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; October 20, 1 to 5 p.m.

Lost River Film Fest

October 19, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Join the San Marcos Cinema Club for its third annual Lost River Film Fest. More details on the full four-day festival can be found at LostRiverFilmFest.org

10 a.m. – EL LIBRO DE LILA: Lila, a character in a children’s story book, suddenly falls out of her paper world, trapped in a place she doesn’t belong. Presented by local elementary-school teacher Diana Garcia.

12 p.m. – THE BIRTH OF BIG AIR: An ESPN special by Oscar-nominated director Spike Jonze and Johnny Knoxville, chronicling BMX icon Mat 

Hoffman’s achievements. Mat Hoffman will be present to read excerpts from his memoir, The Ride of My Life.

2 p.m. – OUR FRIEND JON: This documentary chronicles the making of an independent horror movie to honor the memory of the film maker’s dead friend. 

3:45 p.m. – DEAR AUTISM: A PARENTS’ PERSPECTIVE + WHEN ALL THAT’S LEFT IS LOVE: The first film explores the stories of heartbreak and hope of three families with autistic boys. The latter documentary portrays a wife’s resolve to care for her Alzheimer’s-stricken husband in their home. 


Managing Stress and Change

October 19, 2 to 3 p.m.

Certified Life Coach and Career Consultant Deirdre Taylor discusses the personal and professional impacts of change and stress, and how to effectively manage those changes. Participants will learn strategies for applying insights gained from transition to future professional interactions.  


Shut Up and Write!

October 20, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

With a "just do it" attitude, Shut Up and Write! is for anyone trying to finish a writing project. No critiques or group share allowed. The first 30 minutes are for introductions and to discuss writing challenges followed by one hour dedicated to work in silence. Claiming Sunday: The Story of a Texas Slave Community

October 22, 6:30 p.m.

On this 400th anniversary of the beginning of slavery, the library will host Dr. Elvin Holt to moderate a panel discussion with Jo Snider on her book Claiming Sunday: The Story of a Texas Slave Community, a historical book illustrating the details of slave life in an East Texas community from 1830 to 1865. Dr. Holt will also interview local artist Robert (Bob) Jones on his collaboration with Snider and the creation of artistic depictions of the people who were enslaved in this account.


Computer Class

October 23, 10 a.m. 

Free introductory computer classes in email, Internet searching, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel for adults. Learn how to get started with your iPad or tablet. 


Understanding Elder Memory Care

October 23, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Elder care expert Angie Serna Biehunko will present on early signs of memory loss and varying components of memory care, such as: structured environments that have schedules and routines to create a stress-free lifestyle, safety features to ensure the health of a senior, and programs designed to cultivate cognitive skills.


From Monet to Van Gogh: A History of Impressionism

October 23, 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. 

We complete our examination of Impressionism in this six-part course. This course will highlight three Impressionists, Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro, and how radical and innovative these artists were for their time. Presented by Becky Duval Reese, and brought to you by LifeLong Learning San Marcos.


Philosophy Dialogues

October 23, 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Adults participate in a round table discussion with students and faculty of the Texas State University Philosophy Department. Inclusion and the Ethics of Care presented by Christopher Hall.


Get Ready to Vote This November 

October 23, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The League of Women Voters - Hays County will provide information on the new vote centers and voting machines in Hays County along with information on the proposed ten constitutional amendments that will be on the ballot statewide.
