[ARCHIVED] New Downtown Banners Feature Local Artist’s Work

Artist Rene Perez with Banners

The City of San Marcos recently installed artist-designed banners throughout downtown as part of a placemaking initiative led by the Main Street Program.

“Placemaking means creating spaces where people want to spend time,” explained Downtown Coordinator Josie Falletta. “We are excited to highlight a local artist’s work and we hope the banners bring smiles to the faces of residents and visitors alike.”

Rene Perez, a local artist, created artwork for the banners. There are four designs in total, all of which feature scenery and icons unique to San Marcos: Kissing Alley, the San Marcos River, the rattlesnake and the bobcat.

The banner project was completed with help from the City’s Capital Improvements and Engineering Department, the Convention and Visitor Bureau, and the Public Services Transportation Division.
