[ARCHIVED] City Urges Water Conservation Through the Weekend

HELP US CONSERVE WATER

The City of San Marcos is urging water conservation for all City of San Marcos water customers throughout the weekend to help stabilize the water pressure within the water distribution system.  Reducing water usage is the only way to increase water pressure in the system following pressure reductions and fluctuations due to winter weather, state-mandated rolling electrical outages, and supply and demand.

Residents are asked to refrain from doing laundry, running the dishwasher, and completing other high-water usage activities. In order to stop water loss at your home or business, isolate any broken piping and turn off water to the leaking area. San Marcos is also under a hard freeze warning through 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, so please turn off faucets that were dripping or running after the warning expires.

Since water pressure dropped across our system, a city-wide boil water advisory has been issued in compliance with state requirements but that is a precautionary measure and does not mean your water is contaminated.  Notice will be provided to water customers through the media, across all social media platforms, and through Everbridge text, phone and email notification when the boil water advisory has been rescinded.

The City is working to restore water service to full, normal operation as quickly as possible. You may read the full advisory here: www.sanmarcostx.gov/boiladvisory. To report a water outage, email waterwastewaterinfo@sanmarcostx.gov or call 512.393.8010.

Electric Update:

ERCOT is operating under normal operations and rotating outages have ended. San Marcos Electric has also restored power to all but 20 customers and they’ll have those completed soon. If your power goes out or is out, it is a true outage, not a scheduled interruption. Please report electric outages by calling 512.393.8313 or emailing poweroutinfo@sanmarcostx.gov.

Please visit our website at www.sanmarcostx.gov/winter for continued updates. For media inquiries, contact communicationsinfo@sanmarcostx.gov.
