The CENTEX Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) presented San Marcos City Manager Stephanie Reyes with the Distinguished Alumni Award during its annual Public Service Recognition Week Banquet on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Reyes was among other practitioners, alumni, and students of the Master of Public Administration program at Texas State University, Texas A&M University’s George Bush School of Government and the LBJ School of Public Affairs to be honored during the event.
Reyes graduated from the MPA program at Texas State in 2001 and has since remained active in the program, currently serving on the MPA Advisory Council. She was nominated by Dr. Nandhini Rangarajan, MPA Program Director at Texas State University, recognizing her contributions to the program and two decades of dedicated service in city government.
“I’m humbled by this honor from the CENTEX ASPA,” said Reyes. “I strongly believe in its mission to support communities through development of good public policy, as well as building a strong network of public administrators and aspiring professionals.”
Reyes was named the San Marcos City Manager in February 2023, and has worked for the City since June 2001. Prior to becoming City Manager, Reyes served as Assistant City Manager, Chief of Staff, Assistant Director of Human Resources, Interim Economic Development Director, and Assistant to the City Manager.
Reyes holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration. She is a member of the Texas City Management Association, the International City/County Management Association, and has served as a board member or officer for the Hays County Dispute Resolution Center, Community Action, and Leadership San Marcos Alumni Association.
She and her husband of 14 years, Andrew, have two children, Andrés and Gabriela.
