[ARCHIVED] CIVIC Award Winners

CIVIC Award Cropped

The City of San Marcos Employee Group recognized Battalion Chief John Koenig, Captain Jeff Green, Engineer Scott Grunwald, and Firefighters Jordan Hutto and Bobby Dallimore from the San Marcos Fire Department as the winners of the 2nd Quarterly, Conduct that is Impactful, Visionary, Influential, and Courteous (CIVIC) Award.

The Sutherland Springs shooting presented an opportunity for these individuals to demonstrate a high level of service to the public.  Their selfless donation of time and efforts to serve the first responders, family, and community members of Sutherland Springs was exceptional.

On Sunday, November 5, 2017, just hours after a gunman opened fired inside the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, several off-duty San Marcos Fire Department personnel began looking for a way to help.  These firefighters all donated their time and effort over the next two days cooking and providing meals for local, state, and federal first responders and families of the victims. They also assisted in feeding mourners who attended a community service on Monday evening.

This group of men and their actions exemplify service above self.  We are very proud of their willingness to get involved in a very difficult situation and their efforts to bring comfort and a sense of normalcy to a devastated community.
