The City of San Marcos and the Texas Department of Transportation will host a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Loop 82 Overpass on Monday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. near the north corner of Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos.
The event will feature remarks by Mayor John Thomaides, Texas State University President Dr. Denise Trauth, and TxDOT District Engineer Terry McCoy, P.E.
The $20.7 million project began in 2015 to construct a bridge spanning the Union Pacific Rail Road tracks to increase area mobility and safety along Aquarena Springs Drive. The new overpass eliminates interruptions in vehicular traffic from daily multiple train crossings.
In addition, Post Road was realigned and widened at its intersection with Aquarena Springs Drive, and sidewalks and bicycle lanes were added to enhance mobility for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The project was completed earlier this month.
