SMFD Bagpipers; Firefighters Micah Harris, Robert Dallimore, and Battalion Chief Jim Matano.

The San Marcos Fire Department would like to extend an invitation to you and your family on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, 8:45am at San Marcos City Hall, 630 East Hopkins Street.  It is the 17th anniversary since the terrorist attack on our country.

The program will open with a welcome from City Manager, Bert Lumbreras, Mayor John Thomaides will follow with a proclamation and introduce guest speaker, Retired Colonel Michael Kinslow.

This year’s guest speaker will be retired Air Force Colonel Michael Kinslow, a survivor of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon.

Over a career in the Air Force spanning almost 34 years, Kinslow was qualified in strategic missile weapons systems and defense satellite communications systems; completed staff tours in two major commands and the Air Staff; and has earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Medal with six oak leaf clusters. He currently teaches Junior ROTC at Del Valle High School, overseeing approximately 120 students.

The San Marcos Fire Department Honor Guard will join with Del Valle JR ROTC Honor Guard to raise the flag that was flying over San Marcos City Hall the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

Following the flag raising will be renditions of the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem sung by Tammy Strakos, as well as a performance from the San Marcos Fire Department Bagpipers.

The historical fire bell in front of City Hall will then be tolled in honor of the first responders who perished on 9-11 with a moment of silent reflection.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony and to place flowers on the Flower Memorial afterward.
