Early voting for the Dec. 11 City Council runoff election begins today at the Hays County Government Center Conference Room, 712 S. Stagecoach Trail from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“We encourage all registered voters to exercise their right and vote in the runoff election,” said City Clerk Jamie Case. “Historically, local runoff elections have lower voter turnout than regular elections, but they are essential to the governance of our community.”

The runoff election is for City Council Place Four, the unexpired term vacated by Mayor Jane Hughson, and for City Council Place 5.

Running for Place Four are Mark Rockeymoore and Shane Scott, and for Place Five are Jocabed “Joca” Marquez and Rick Henderson.

Early voting schedule

Monday, Nov. 26 through Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 3 through Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Satellite locations for early voting will also be available at:

Hays County Health Dept., 401 A Broadway St

Dec. 1, 2018 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.;  Dec. 3, 2018 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Dec. 4, 2018 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Texas State San Marcos LBJ Student Center, 700 Student Center Drive

Nov. 28-30, 2018 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The runoff results will be canvassed and the new City Council members sworn in on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. a City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.
