[ARCHIVED] Bomb Threat Cleared at San Marcos Regional Airport

At 1:41 p.m. the San Marcos Police Department was contacted by Blue Skies Aviation at the San Marcos Regional Airport in reference to an email received advising that an explosive had been hidden in the building and if they evacuated or if police responded the device would be detonated.  The email went on to demand a payment be made via cryptocurrency.

Prior to officers arriving on scene, San Marcos police contacted the Austin Police Department’s Bomb Squad and also obtained intelligence information that businesses around the state and country had received similar emails.

The Blue Skies employees were asked to evacuate and officers performed a cursory sweep of the location.  No suspicious items were located and the business returned to normal operation.

If any other businesses received similar emails we ask that they report it to SMPD by calling 512.753.2108 and that the public remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the department.
