[ARCHIVED] Firefighter’s Receive Paramedic Certification

Custom cake ordered to celebrate firefighters paramedic certification.

Firefighters Robert Dallimore, Ross Garman, and Lucas Sergent graduated from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and achieved their paramedic certification.

The program consists of 30 semester credit hours and they attended from August through May.  The department celebrated each member once they returned to shift with a custom cake.  The fire department is very proud of their accomplishment!

The goal of the department is to have all firefighters attend paramedic school and earn the certification to provide emergency care to the citizens of San Marcos.  Fire Chief Stephens said, “With EMS calls becoming an ever-higher percentage of our calls, having personnel who can administer advanced life support (ALS) care to our citizens and visitors has become a priority for the Department. Over the last couple of decades, the trend in the U.S. fire service has been to train firefighters to the paramedic level so they can begin advanced level treatment of EMS patients even before the ambulance arrives on-scene. ”
