Two City of San Marcos departments have recently received recognition at award ceremonies for their 2018 programs.
Communications Department
The Communications Department won two TAMI Awards at the June 2019 Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) Conference. The team was awarded for Best Media Relations and Best Use of Social Media in the coverage of the Iconic Village Fire.
The Communications team also received Awards of Excellence for the Grand Opening of the Children’s Park Playscape and the Core Values internal communications plan.
Keep San Marcos Beautiful
Keep San Marcos Beautiful has been named a Gold Star Affiliate for the third year at the Keep Texas Beautiful Conference in honor of the various beautification and cleanup efforts they hold throughout the year.
The Resource Recovery Division, in conjunction with Sights & Sounds of Christmas, also won the Civic Organization award for their waste management during the 2018 holiday event.
Over the span of the 2018 seven-day event, 106 volunteers served for a total of 430 hours. The team was able to divert 83% of waste from the landfill by composting 15,475 pounds and recycling 2,935 pounds of waste.
“We’re extremely proud of the efforts of our staff to excel not only within our City operations, but to also be recognized with these statewide awards,” said City Manager Bert Lumbreras, “Achievements such as these embody our Core Values of innovation, professionalism, customer experience, and are a true team effort.”
