Community Organizations Active in Disasters Kicks Off in San Marcos

On May 12, approximately 40 different organizations throughout the San Marcos area met to hear a presentation by our Emergency Management Coordinator, Reese Martin, about developing a Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) to serve the San Marcos community. At the next meeting in June, the organizations will meet again to start building the structure of the COAD, beginning the process of electing a board, and developing rules and responsibilities. Vaccination Clinics & Expansion of State Mobile Vaccine Program

Hays County, San Marcos CISD, Hays CISD, TDEM, and the National Guard are hosting Pfizer Vaccinations at the following locations in the next few days:

San Marcos High School
McCormick Middle School
Simon Middle School
Hays CISD Transportation Main Office

June 4, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
June 5, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
June 6, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Also, Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Division of Emergency Management, and the Texas Military Department recently announced the expansion of the State Mobile Vaccine Program to include groups of five or more Texans who voluntarily choose to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Texans can call 844-90-TEXAS and select Option 3 to schedule a mobile vaccine clinic to vaccinate groups of friends, families, employees, volunteers, and more. Homebound Texans are also encouraged to call the hotline and select Option 1 to request a state mobile vaccination team to visit their home. The call center is open Monday through Saturday from 8a to 5p.

Keep Your Neighbors Cool This Summer - Donate a Fan!

The City of San Marcos is partnering with Community Action Inc. of Central Texas to accept donations benefitting members of our community that do not have or cannot afford air conditioning during the warm summer months.

The City is asking for donations of new, 20-inch box fans and 12-inch or larger oscillating fans. Cash or check financial donations are also accepted. All contributions will be used to purchase new fans for distribution to people in need of assistance.

SMTX 2021 to Highlight Achievements, Teamwork in San Marcos

The City of San Marcos will present SMTX 2021, a citywide update for residents, on Monday, June 7 beginning at 6 p.m. The 20-minute video presentation will include comments from Mayor Jane Hughson, City staff, and local business owners and may be viewed online or through local government cable channels. 1 Million Cups June Meeting to feature CompuLabs Cloud(TM) and Springtown Roasters

The Greater San Marcos Texas Area kicked off their 1 Million Cups Chapter in March 2021 and is steadily growing followers. The June meeting of 1 Million Cups in Greater SMTX will feature presentations by CompuLabs Cloud(TM) and Springtown Roasters. It is their passion to create functional and aesthetically stunning website experiences for client organizations. Springtown Roasters is a women-owned coffee roasting company located in San Marcos, Texas. They focus on Fair Trade Organic coffees and coffee by women producers; and also donate part of their proceeds to local non-profit organizations helping the people & environment of Texas.

WIC Wellness Works

The City of San Marcos Women, Infants & Children (WIC), which provides services in Hays, Caldwell, Guadalupe, and Comal Counties, is participating in the statewide Texas WIC Wellness Challenge during the month of June. Staff members have teamed up to embrace the Power of Positivity through weekly exercises and coworker connection, within each clinic and as a whole agency.

The Power of Positivity challenge highlights the benefits of a positive mindset, which is the foundation to healthy emotions and motivating self-talk. San Marcos WIC encourages you to make simple changes using daily activities to nurture a positive mindset.
